An expert on radicalization, Salafism and Islamic movements, Demir served as the Regional Studies Program Advisor at the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV). Demir is the Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Studies Institute (TEPAV OAS), which was established within TEPAV in 2020. He is also the president of the International Observatory on Radicalism, founded in 2024.
